Local heroes
We have chosen our headmaster to be our "Local Hero". A 14-year-old student made an interview with her.

Fülöp Istvánné (Mrs Fülöp) has been the headmaster of our school for 8 years now.

• I do not think that I would be a hero. I am just doing my job.

• What do you think, what are the basic human values?

• Well, they are those that are written in the Charta of Human Rights, but as everyone I learnt the basic behaviour forms at home. Besides my family, it is the school (and it was in the past, too) where my colleagues and me think that these values are very important.

• In 2005, the students in the junior school could start learning in a beautiful, new building.

• Yes, thats true. We are very proud of our new, renovated school in Hősök Street, where there are new classrooms and an assembly hall. Not only in our town, even in Békés county, in this complicated and difficult financial situation it was an unique investment to build this new school building.

• As we are part of the Europan Union, there is a great need to speak foreign languages.

• Right. In our school students can learn English and German. They can start learning English at the age of 7 but from the 4th year students have 5 English lessons a week. The most hard-working pupils can pass the elementary language exam in the 8th year.

• What about Information Technology?

• It is very important nowadays. We have well-equipped computers and students can connect to the Internet, too.

• In the 5th and 6th year students can learn subjects like Dance and drama or Knowledge of the native country. We do not have them in the 8th year. Why not?

• The law states that these modules should be taught. In the 5th-6th year students can learn these subjects but at the age of 13-14 they are taught Ethics and Media. I heard that they like these subjects very much!

• Since that day when our school has become Kis Bálint Primary School, we have a T-shirt, there is our school's name on it, or we have a tie... Do you think we need them?

• Well, 600 students learn in this school and it is very important to have some kind of uniform that shows we belong to the same school. The person, who gave his name to our school, is a model for our teachers and students, too.

• Is this called image-building?

• Yes. Our students like "Kis Bálint Days" very much, when there is no teaching for 3 days and they can take part in various programs such as sports afternoon, singing at the camp-fire, craftsman's afternoon... During these days their parents can come and visit our school, too.

• I have heard that we can go to a camp in the summer holiday. Is it true?

• Yes, it will be at the end of July-beginning of August. Approximately 100 students will come... Teachers, students and parents will have fun together. It is in the organization of "Foundation of Children".

• But we can make some money earlier...

• It will be the traditional waste-material collecting day, when every student goes and collects papers in the city. Those classes, which collected lots of, get money for it.

• Nagyenyed (in Romania) has been our twin city for 10 years now. This year they are going to visit us.

• No, this year we are going to visit them. We always organize various programs to each other.

• How can the parents get involved into the school's work?

• There is a Collective of Parents in our school and they are often asked for their opinions. But there are parents who help the class' work individually, for example making sandwiches for the school party.

• Thank you for the interview. It was very interesting! I wish good health for your future work!

Opinions about the new school building in Hősök Street

I like this school because all my best friends are here; this school is very comfortable and bright. It is also good that we have a library here.
Gréta Gyány, 4.b

I like to attend this school because there is a television, a video recorder and a dvd player in every classroom. I like the assembly hall, too, because in rainy weather we can be there and we do not have to stay in our classroom. The sports centre is near to my school, too.
Alexandra Kovács 4.b

It is good to be here because we learn how to write, read, count, we play a lot and the lunch is delicious.
Szabina Csesznak 1.c

Hello, I am Zsófia Iványi and I like my new school very much. The classrooms are nice and friendly and we can learn at new, comfortable desks. As I enter the building I always become happy because of the wide and bright assembly hall, so my day starts well.
Zsófi Iványi, 4.c

I like this school because it is well equipped and I like all of my teachers. I have lots of friends here and our headmaster is kind, too.

Christmas in Hungary

We often celebrate Christmas with our family, for every child it is the greatest family festival. The Christmas days are the 24th, 25th and 26th of December. In Christmas Eve we decorate the Christmas tree. This evening several families go to church, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. We give lots of presents to each other. On the first day of Christmas we invite our relatives for lunch or dinner. The traditional meals are chicken soup, fish soup, ham, stuffed cabbage and poppy-seed cake. So, this is our Christmas.

Peace poem

Our planet is very nice but a lot of terrorists kill it with their guns.

Discover Europe

We would like to introduce our town. It is Gyomaendrőd in Hungary. It is situated in the south-eastern part of our country, along the river Hármas-Körös. Gyomaendrőd is a small town.
There are three primary schools. They are:

1. Kálmán Rózsahegyi

2. St. Gellért

3. Bálint Kis This school is ours.

There are two secondary schools:

1. Imre Kner

2. Gábor Bethlen

Gyomaendrőd is famous for the Kner family. They were printers. They founded a printing house in our town.

There is a printing museum next to the printing house.

Kner Square is not far from these buildings.

There are four printing museums in Europe. This is one of them. One of our secondary schools' name is Imre Kner.

In the centre of our town is the Self-government Hall

and the Sports Hall.

There is a cinema, a hotel, a café and a bookshop here.

There are four churches with monuments for unknown soldiers.

There is a so called regional house, too. It introduces the history of our town.

We have a gallery with lots of paintings of Margit Corini and Béla Vidovszky. They lived here.

You can spend your free time in the library.

Bowling Alley

and café with Internet.

We have a famous and beautiful spa. We love it. You can swim and have a rest in your free time.

You can ride a bike and walk along on the bank of the river. It is Landscape Protection Area.

We like our town.
